Introduction

Even though agriculture is the most traditional type of production, it can also be the most modern green ecological and service industry. It is not only a part of the economy, but can also possess diverse functions in natural conservation and humanities infrastructure. Today, agriculture is approaching a new context of global competition. In facing import of foreign agricultural products and challenge of lowered tariffs, the Bureau’s vision is to “promote sustainable agriculture, develop refined agricultural products, construct rural villages of Lohas, and enable happy farmers”, hoping to connect the advantages of agricultural technology and geographical strengths to create agricultural prosperity in the greater Kaohsiung region.

The Bureau has the following divisions: Rural Development Division, Farmers’ Organizations Division, Agricultural Affairs Division, Marketing Service Division, Livestock Affairs Division, Wholesale Market Development Division, Plant Inspection and Ecological Conservation Division, Secretariat, Accounting Office, Personnel Office, and Ethics Office, for a total of 7 divisions and 4 offices, which have jurisdiction over the Animal Protection Office.

Affairs conducted at the Bureau are unlike other front line service institutions such as the Land Administration Bureau or Household Registration Office, which provides face-to-face services for people with a much higher frequency. However, the Bureau has accumulated service experiences over many years and developed standard operating procedures. At the different divisions and offices, a single multifunctional window has been established for services of different types, offering professional services for people.
